Chapter 35 – Aaron

The afternoon had been full of ideas and suggestions, with every thought listened to, and every opinion valid.

By the time six o’clock came, Aaron was exhausted but exhilarated, and the builder and architect had pretty substantial notes on what work would be required to turn the ground floor of the store into a functioning gym, and the first floor into four exercise suites.

Every measurement had been taken, every partition wall that would be required had been marked on a digital outline of the building, and copious lists of contractors they would need were made, containing names of heating engineers, elevator maintenance companies, plumbers, carpenters, electricians and more.

Aaron’s head was spinning as he returned to his apartment to grab the lunchtime dishes.

By the time he returned downstairs, only Eli was waiting for him.

“Candy said she’d send you a copy of the notes she made.” Eli grinned at him, as he locked up the front door. “I don’t know about you, but I completely lost track of all the jobs they said needed doing after the first two hours.”

Aaron followed his brother to the bar, and they entered quickly to get out of the cold breeze.

“What are you doing with those?” Eli nodded towards the bags. “I thought you were returning them to the kitchen.”

“I didn’t have any washing-up liquid in my apartment, so I was going to wash them upstairs before returning them to Liz.”

“Suit yourself.” Eli waved to Bill as they made their way to the door to the stairs. “You could have left them in the kitchen dirty you know. Liz would have washed them in exchange for a big hug.”

Aaron smiled.

“I promised Jessie that I’d return them clean.” He shrugged. “I try not to break my word to anyone.”

Aaron followed Eli up the stairs, and once in the kitchen, he went straight to the sink and started getting the dishes out of the bag.

“How did it go with the builders?” He turned to see Reilly standing in the doorway. “I thought Eli said you were only going to be an hour or two.”

“Eli did say that.” His brother appeared from the utility room. “But obviously, Eli didn’t have the first idea what the fuck he was talking about.”

“Eli should stop talking about himself in the third person.” Aaron grunted. “It’s weird!”

“Seriously!” Eli wrapped his arms around Reilly’s waist and dropped a kiss on her nose. “There is a list of things that need doing as long as both your arms.”

“Thankfully, the builder guy said most of the jobs in the front of house were superficial.” Aaron explained. “The staircase will be a big job, as will creating the locker rooms and showers downstairs, but putting up the dividing walls upstairs won’t be so difficult, and the partitions downstairs are a piece of cake.”

“Have you decided what to do with the basement space yet?” Reilly asked, looking at Aaron. “Eli said it was a good size, and the ceilings were high enough so you could use it as an extension of the main room.
